On Commercial Art Commercial art is art you do for payment. Currently I think commercial art changes folks perceptions a lot more than fine art. Film, in particular, dominates the artistic landscape even though creativity isn't it's primary focus. It makes most museum art today look pretty pale. Books come a close second. Museum art's focus on pure form instead of narative meanings have really hurt museums as a delivery mechanism. The internet should be the holy grail of art delivery mechanisms, but it hasn't yet. Not at least for me, but I still have faith in it as a medium. Who doesn't? I think it just needs time. |
